Following the success of The Medium, Bloober Team reveals they’re already hard at work on their next title.
In an interview with GI.biz, CEO Piotr Babieno said the company is looking to broaden its appeal. The Polish developer made its name with walking-simulator horror titles like Layers of Fear and Blair Witch. With the release of The Medium, which has already recuperated its development costs three weeks after release, Bloober has reached a turning point.
According to Babieno, many horror franchises have tilted more towards action in recent years in a bid to gain a wider audience:
We’ve been having that conversation for three years, because we realized we’re in a niche, and we would like to make that niche broader. Our future projects will not necessarily be horror games. They could be called thrillers. We’re much broader with The Medium and the stuff we’re trying to do in the future.Quote Source
It sounds like this new philosophy is already being put to use. Babieno says the company has been hard at work on a new project for over a year now, and it’s sure to get fans excited.
He was tight-lipped about the details, but let slip a few juicy morsels nonetheless:
In fact, we’ve been working for more than a year on another gaming project, another horror IP, and we’re doing this with a very famous gaming publisher. I can’t tell you who. I can’t tell you what the project is, but I’m pretty sure when people realize we’re working on it, they will be very excited.Quote Source
A New Silent Hill?
This suggests that the IP in question is an existing one, since it’s unlikely that people would be excited over a franchise they don’t know yet. This, in turn, has led to speculation that the new project might, in fact, be a Silent Hill title.
The folks at VGC have pointed out a few details in favor of the rumor. For one, famed Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka, who already composed the music for The Medium, said he’s also working on another project with Bloober Team.
They also pointed out that Konami has reportedly already outsourced Silent Hill to another Japanese developer. If Bloober Team is indeed working on a Silent Hill game, this would support another rumor that Konami has two titles in the series already planned.
As with any rumor, this all remains speculation for now. But one can hope that, whatever the title turns out to be, it will be as exciting as Bloober Team promises.
