It’s been a decade since Destiny 1’s release and after that, the game didn’t look back. With Destiny 2‘s release in 2017, things got even better. I do agree we’ve had our highs and lows with it but the thing is, it never misses and consistently delivers thrilling content with its expansive updates.

Key Takeaways

  • The latest expansion pack for Destiny 2 introduced a fresh wave of powerful weapons with unique perks and abilities. Each weapon enhances the gameplay differently.
  • The expansion features massive and menacing enemies, such as the Dreadnaught Titans and Harbingers. All these enemies require not only gun power but also deep strategies and quick movements to defeat them.
  • The Final Shape also added Neomuna, the new map area on Neptune, for exploration. Similarly, the newly added Strand subclass is also an exciting addition with lots of cool abilities.

I mean all thanks to its expansion packs, we’ve battled the Red Legion, slain Hive gods, and even stopped a rogue AI from collapsing timelines. The talk of the town right now is its latest expansion pack, the Final Shape, which has already gained a 9/10 rating on Steam. To sum it up in one sentence, it throws us rashly into a desperate fight for survival against an ancient entity; the Witness.

But that’s not it and let me tell you, facing down cosmic doom has never been this much fun (or involved this many cool guns). Yes! From powerful new weapons to towering enemies and an additional 7-10 hours of gameplay, this expansion has a lot to offer.

Fresh And Cooler Guns

The highlight of this expansion pack is the introduction of new weapons. I must say Bungie has outperformed itself by designing some of the coolest guns we’ve seen in Destiny 2. These weapons not only look fantastic but also bring new mechanics and abilities that make the gameplay even more fun.

The new pack also added many new weapons

For example, the Ecliptic Distaff, a pulse rifle, has an awesome perk that creates mini black holes on precision kills. This weapon quickly became a favorite in my loadout. Trust me, the feeling of nailing a headshot and watching a mini black hole suck in nearby enemies is extremely satisfying. Apart from the visual aesthetics, this also helps in managing groups of enemies.

Another one of my favorites is the Solaris Lance, a solar-based scout rifle that sets enemies on fire with rapid precision hits. This gun is perfect for crowd control, especially in PvE activities where enemies attack you in groups. Its design is a nod to classic sci-fi aesthetics, which adds an extra layer of coolness when wielding it in battle.

Aegis Scepter, Gjallarhorn, and Redback-5si are some other interesting additions that I found to be very useful in the game.

Massive And Menacing Enemies

While weapons are the highlight, the expansion pack also introduces some of the most massive and menacing enemies in Destiny 2’s history. The expansion’s story pits players against the Witness’s latest creations, towering behemoths that require new strategies to defeat.

The first time I encountered a Dreadnaught Titan, I was genuinely amazed by its sheer size and power. These enemies are not just bullet sponges; they have difficult-to-follow attack patterns and devastating abilities that keep you on your toes. You will need a well-devised strategy and quick movements to survive.

During a match with my friends, we were trying so hard together to bring down a Titan yet it was getting difficult dodging its massive ground slams and energy beams. Needless to say, it took quite some beating to finally bring him down.

Another thing I observed is that the new enemies are designed in a way that their aesthetics also reflect the dark atmosphere of The Final Shape. If you ask me, I found the Harbingers, those twisted and corrupted Guardians, to be particularly chilling.

Expanded Map And The Strand Subclass

The expansion pack also expanded the map with a new area called Neomuna, a city on the planet Neptune. Neomuna looks amazing, with bright neon signs and old-fashioned buildings all mixed. It’s like a futuristic city out of science fiction, but also scary and destroyed because of aliens.

The Final Shape also introduces a brand new subclas: Strand. You can think of Strand as magic space threads that you can use to grab enemies, make them explode, or even hang them in mid-air. It is a very useful addition actually as it is super versatile and lets you fight in new ways. You can swing around with a special grappling hook, yank enemies towards you, and blow them up with your space threads. It’s a lot of fun!

That said, the grenades you throw can feel a bit weak compared to other subclasses. Also, some parts of the super ability aren’t as smooth as they could be. These are just minor bumps in the road though. Strand is a cool new subclass with a lot of potential, and I’m excited to see how Bungie improves it over time.

Finally, the endgame missions and the graphics work is also on point. To sum it up, Bungie’s new expansion has my vote. If you are still confused about buying it, the following gameplay might help you decide better.
