It provides you the opportunity to create a build of your own choice, whether it be arcane, faith, strength, dexterity, and so on. In addition to that, it provides you the opportunity to choose from a variety of weapons ranging from greatswords, spears, axes, and much more.

1. Urumi

Best Whip for Versatility & Style

The first whip on our list is the urumi. It deals slash and thrust damages and stands out with its unique and stylish design, featuring fine, flexible metal blades.

I found the Urumi fascinating for its versatility. Being a whip that can also function as a spear to impale enemies was great. I particularly enjoyed its strength scaling of E and dexterity scaling of C, which required me to have 10 strength and 19 dexterity to wield it effectively.

The urumi’s weapon skill is ‘kick,’ which may not be a powerful attack but can disrupt your enemy’s stance, creating opportunities for significant damage.

You can use it one-handed or two-handed, with little difference in damage output. However, dual-wielding urumi can deliver rapid, high-damage attacks.

An advantage of the urumi is its adaptability. You can customize its attributes to match your playstyle by upgrading it using ashes of war.

With that being said, let us move on to where you can find this weapon.

Location Of The Urumi

Getting this weapon is no hard feat. All you need to do is head to Cari Manor and then to the Manor Upper Level. Once there, you will have to use the lift to get to the bottom.

Head out from here and you will see that there is another building located at a lower elevation, as shown.

Jump down on its roof and look around for a body to loot the urumi off of. Once you find the body, the urumi is all yours.

2. Thorned Whip

Best Whip for Bleeding Damage & Threatening Looks

The thorned whip is surely one of the best whips because of several reasons. The first one is, that it looks extremely savage because it is all red and covered in thorns.

The attributes required to wield the thorned whip are 8 strength and 16 dexterity. It has a scaling of C in dexterity and a scaling of E in strength.

Even though the special attack of the urumi and the thorned whip is the same, which is kick, a serious advantage that the thorned whip has over the urumi is that it causes blood loss buildup.

You do not have to worry about the special attack because like the urumi, the thorned whip can be infused with ashes of war as well. It has all the other benefits of being a whip such as the range and so on and that makes it a really effective weapon because you get the bleeding damage as the icing on the cake.

Location Of The Thorned Whip

There is not a specific location where you can get this weapon therefore, I will be using images to make things clearer for you on where you can get this weapon.

With that being said, make your way to the Mountaintops of the Giants. To be more specific, the Zamor Ruins. From there you need to go to the location marked on the map below, which will basically be a long narrow bridge.

There you will find the Fire Prelate, which is a humanoid enemy in Elden ring, wielding the thorned whip. The thorned whip will be all yours once you successfully decimate him.

3. Hoslow’s Petal Whip

Best Whip for Aesthetics & Rapid Strikes

The next weapon in our guide is the hoslow’s petal whip. This is probably the coolest looking whip in the game because it is made up of razor-sharp blades, that look like flower petals, chained together. You are going to need a strength of 10 and a dexterity of 20 to wield this weapon.

Hoslow’s petal whip has a scaling of D in strength and dexterity. Like the thorned whip, it also causes blood loss buildup and also shares its special attack. It can be upgraded using smithing stones, therefore you can forge it to be better suited to your playstyle. I strongly suggest dual-wielding the petal’s whip because this will allows you to inflict a lot of damage rapidly.

Now that the basics are out of the way, let us move on to how you can get this weapon.

Location Of The Hoslow’s Petal Whip

To acquire this weapon for yourself, head to the volcano manor, and there you will need to complete the letter missions.

1. Go to Volcano Manor and complete the letter missions.
2. Successfully complete two missions.
3. Your third contract will be to kill Juno Hoslow.
4. Head to Mountaintops of the Giants and find the Shack of the Lofty, near the Ancient Snow Valley Ruins site of grace.
5. Touch the red rune on the ground to trigger Hoslow’s invasion.
6. Defeat Hoslow to obtain Hoslow’s Petal Whip.

4. Magma Whip Candlestick

Best Whip for Fire Builds & Elemental Damage

The second-to-last weapon on our best whips list is the Magma Whip Candlestick, and as the name suggests, it’s all about fire. This weapon showcases remarkable creativity from the game’s creators.

To wield the Magma Whip Candlestick, you’ll need 8 strength, 16 dexterity, and 18 faith. It has E scaling in strength, and D scaling in both faith and dexterity. While it lacks passive effects, it excels in dealing fire damage, making it formidable for a whip.

Its special attack is the “Sea of Magma,” a powerful move where you swing the whip above your head, creating a surrounding ‘sea of magma.’ This attack sets the Magma Whip apart. However, it cannot be upgraded using ashes of war, which is its only drawback.

Location Of The Magma Whip Candlestick

To obtain this weapon for yourself, you will need to assassinate someone for patches.

1. Go to Murkwater cave in Limgrave.
2. Spare Patches instead of killing him.
3. Return to the cave, and a chest will transport you to the Mist Woods.
4. Talk to Patches in the Mist Woods.
5. He’ll move to Scenic Isle; talk to him there and exhaust his dialogue.
6. Patches will later move to Volcano Manor.
7. Talk to Patches at Volcano Manor, and he’ll send you on a quest to kill the Great Horned Tragoth.
8. Successfully complete the quest, and Patches will reward you with the Magma Whip Candlestick.

5. Giant’s Red Braid

Best Whip for Power & Late-game Impact

 

The last whip in our guide is the giant’s red braid, which can only be acquired very late in the game. It is made up of the hair of the Fire Giant, which is a non-optional boss in Elden ring.

You are going to need 18 strength, 12 dexterity, and 21 faith to wield this weapon. Giant’s red braid whip has a scaling of D in strength, faith, and dexterity. It cannot be upgraded using ashes of war, nor does it have any passive effect like some of the other whips on this list.

The giant’s red braid can be used to inflict a great deal of physical and fire damage. It has a lethal special attack called the flame dance. In it, you basically swing your whip around and as result deal a lot of damage.

The flame dance is really effective against a small group of enemies because you are able to hit several targets at the same time. To unleash its true power, you can dual-wield it as most whips work best while your dual-wielding them.

Location Of Giant’s Red Braid

To obtain this whip, head to the Flame Peak in the Mountaintops of the Giants. There you will need to defeat the Fire Giant. Upon defeating him, you will get his remembrance which you can take the trade with Enia at the Roundtable Hold.

Why Other Were Not Chosen?

• Whip: The basic whip. It’s a decent starter weapon but lacks the special effects and higher damage output of other unique whips.

What Would I Recommend?

When it comes to the Thorned Whip, I’ve found it’s a game-changer because of its ability to cause bleeding damage, altering how I approach fights, especially against enemies vulnerable to such effects. It’s a weapon that slowly weakens foes, which has been incredibly helpful in those longer battles where my patience is tested.

As for the Urumi, I really appreciate its versatility because I can use it either as a whip or as a spear, giving me options to adapt to various situations in the game.
