Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Mass Outbreak Guide

Mass outbreaks in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are events in which 120 of a single type of Pokemon appear in a certain location on the map. They are a great way to farm for materials and XP and increase your chances of getting a shiny pokemon.

You will get new mass outbreaks each day, and the only way to clear them out is by capturing or defeating the Pokemon. Clearing the mass outbreaks will be like a piece of cake, thanks to the Let’s Go feature in the game. You should know that your Let’s Go Pokemon will not attack a shiny Pokemon.

How To Find The Mass Outbreak

All you need to do is open up your map and look around for either a Pokemon symbol or the question mark (?) symbol. These symbols will have a purplish-red hue behind them as well, indicating that there is currently a mass outbreak for that Pokemon.

The Pokemon symbol shows that the mass outbreak is of that Pokemon. On the other hand, the “?” symbol indicates that the mass outbreak is of a Pokemon that is not yet registered in your Pokedex. To find out what the Pokemon is, just explore the area.

I have summarized the process of finding mass outbreaks down below:

• Press “Y” to open up your map
• Look around for the mass outbreak symbol, which will either be a question mark (?) or a Pokemon.
• Press “A” to select them and then choose the “Set as Destination” option
• All you need to do is follow the marker on your map until you reach the chosen outbreak.

How Can Mass Outbreaks Be Useful

1. You can also catch the Pokemon in mass outbreaks. Therefore, if you do not have the Pokemon, you have about 120 chances to bag it.
2. They are a fast and easy method to get XP. You can initiate the auto-battle by pressing the RB button (the right bumper or right shoulder button).
3. The most important use of mass outbreaks is that they increase your shiny chances exponentially. As the number of Pokemon you defeat in a mass outbreak increases, so do your shiny chances. Let us take a closer look at them:
   • Once you have defeated 20-30 Pokemon, your shiny chances double; they go from 1-in-4096 to 1-in-2048.
   • Once you have defeated 50-60 Pokemon, your shiny chances almost triple as they go to 1-in-1366.

You should know that having a shiny charm will increase your shiny chances by 2x. For those who do not know, you can get the shiny charm by completing the Paldea Pokedex.
