All Ancient Magic Hotspot Locations In Hogwarts Legacy

Ancient Magic Hotspots are traces of Ancient Magic. You will find three essences of Ancient Magic at each of the Hotspots. These are required to increase your Ancient Magic Meter.

In case you don’t know Ancient Magic is a spell that harnesses mystical magic to deal damage. Ancient Magic can also penetrate through Shield Charms.

When you acquire a certain number of Ancient Magic Hotspots, you’ll be able to upgrade your Ancient Magic Meter permanently. This means you will deal even more damage than before.

To help you find all of the Ancient Magic Hotspots, we listed down all 20 Hogwarts Legacy Ancient Magic Hotspots.

How To Unlock Ancient Magic Hotspots

To upgrade your Ancient Magic Meter, you need to learn how to use Ancient Magic. You can learn this by completing the Secrets of the Restricted Section quest. After that, you can see your Ancient Magic Meter as well as the Ancient Magic Hotspots.

Here’s how many Ancient Magic Hotspots you need to interact with to upgrade your Ancient Magic Meter:

• First Upgrade: 2 Ancient Magic Hotspots
• Second Upgrade: 6 Ancient Magic Hotspots
• Third Upgrade: 12 Ancient Magic Hotspots

Location 1

1. This Ancient Magic Hotspot is located Southwest of the North Ford Bog Entrance Floo Flame.
2. You will come across a road in the middle of your journey.
3. Cross the road and keep going Southwest until you come across the Hotspot.
4. The first essence will be to your immediate right.
5. There will also be a ruined wall.
6. Climb the wall and crouch beneath the rocks to find the second essence.
7. For the third essence, go to the left and enter the room.
8. Climb the platform there to get the essence.

Location 2

1. Go Southwest from the West Forbidden Forest Floo Flame. It’s right across the hill, close to the Giant Purple Toads Den.
2. Enter the big building and look for a frog statue. You’ll find it on the left.
3. Enter it and you’ll find the first essence right there.
4. Then, go back to the first statue and find the spiderwebs.
5. Cast Indencio and find the big chest with the statue nearby. Get the second essence from here.
6. Then, for the third and final essence, go back to the first frog statue and look for the statue on the left.
7. Jump to the left to get the essence.
8. You can reach this Ancient Magic Hotspot in two ways.
9. First, you can go Northwest from The Collector’s Cave Floo Flame.
10. The Ancient Magic Hotspot is on the road there.
11. The other way is to go to the East North Hogwarts Region Floo Flame, cross the river, and take the road South. The Ancient Magic Hotspot will appear there.
12. Find the vines covering the entrance and cast Incendio on them to get to the first essence.
13. Then, behind the vines, break the wooden bars using Depulso.
14. You’ll find a hole in the floor.
15. Drop down from this room and cast Accio on the switch in the wall.
16. This will lower the wall and you’ll find the second essence.
17. Then, after you beat the Inferi, you’ll need to travel behind the wall to look for the third essence.

Location 3

1. For this Ancient Magic Hotspot, go to the West Hogwarts Valley Floo Flame.
2. Then, travel Northeast, staying close to the bottom edge of the cliff. You’ll eventually come across a treasure vault. This means you’re close.
3. Keep going North and you’ll see some ruins. This is where the Ancient Magic Hotspot is, inside a building.
4. Here I recommend using your broom to fly up the top of the room and then drop down from the hole in the floor to get the first essence.
5. For the second essence, go to the left of the room and climb up the platforms.
6. You will eventually come to some vines blocking off a room.
7. Burn the vines with Incendio and then get the second essence from the room.
8. Finally, go to the entrance and fly over the wall to your immediate left for the third essence.

Location 4

1. From the Brocburrow Floo Flame, travel Southwest.
2. You will come across a cliff. Climb down from it and keep going Southwest.
3. Eventually, you’ll find the Ancient Magic Hotspot.
4. If you find the treasure vault, this means that you’ve gone too far and need to backtrack a bit.
5. First, defeat the wolves that are charging at you.
6. Then, look for the gear mechanism on the side of the gate.
7. You’ll need to cast Depulso on the mechanism to get the gate to open and get the first essence.
8. Then, on the opposite end of the gate, look for some vines that you can burn with Incendio.
9. After that, fly up and get into the room to acquire the second essence.
10. Now, fly to the very top of the building where you found the first essence.
11. Look for some vines and burn them with Incendio. The third essence is behind the vines.

Location 5

1. This Ancient Magic Hotspot can also be reached from the Brocburrow Floo Flame.
2. Except this time go directly South, past the Kneazle Den.
3. You’ll come across a dense forest area with a Spider Lair.
4. Simply go West from this lair to get to the Ancient Magic Hotspot.
5. Find the first essence hidden behind some spiderwebs.
6. Cast Incendio on the spiderwebs to get access to the essence.
7. Then, go to the back where you can find another spiderweb.
8. You’ll need to defeat some spiders to access the second essence.
9. Then, to your immediate left, you’ll find a box.
10. Climb on top of the box and keep going forward until you find a hole in the wall. The third essence is right there.

Location 6

1. First, travel to the East Hogsmeade Valley Floo Flame.
2. From here, take the road that goes Southwest.
3. Once the road reaches an end, take a right turn and then a left turn.
4. Then, turn right and you will find the Ancient Magic Hotspot.
5. Find the ladder and climb to the very top.
6. Go to the back of the room to cast Incendio on the vines.
7. Then, enter the room and find the first essence at the very back.
8. For the second essence, you’ll need to climb up the platforms in the room.
9. Now, for the third essence, you’ll need to find the lock and, instead of Alohomora, you’ll need to cast Depulso.
10. Break the lock and then find the hole that lets you drop down into the room under you. Drop down and you will find the final essence.

Location 7

1. First, go to the North Feldcroft Floo Flame.
2. Then, travel Northeast onto the road close to the shore.
3. You’ll find the Ancient Magic Hotspot sandwiched between a Small Bandit Camp and a Merlin Trial.
4. Travel to the ruins here, avoiding the Small Bandit Camp entirely.
5. Firstly, step down the staircase to find the first essence.
6. Then, fly to the building close to the ruins to get the second essence.
7. Finally, drop down into the room directly below where the second essence was and you’ll find the third essence.

Location 8

1. Travel to the Keenbridge Floo Flame. Then, head East over the river.
2. You’ll come across a treasure vault. Keep going East over the river and you will find a road.
3. Take it South and the Hogwarts Legacy Ancient Magic Hotspot will be close by.
4. To enter the building, you’ll need to cast Incendio on the vines blocking the entrance.
5. Then, on the crates, cast Depulso. This will let you access the first essence.
6. For the second essence, you’ll need to pull out the crate close to this wall via Accio.
7. Climb the crate and keep going until you come across some new crates.
8. Use Accio to pull one crate out. Instead of climbing the crates, crouch underneath the crate to find the second essence.
9. Now, get on top of the platform and then leap to the other end. You’ll find the third essence here.

Location 9

1. From the Keenbridge Floo Flame, travel directly West.
2. You will eventually come across the Ancient Magic Hotspot by the road.
3. I suggest looking for a chimney on the ground. You’ll need to climb up the chimney, preferably on your broom, to acquire the first essence here.
4. For the second essence, you’ll need to cast Revelio to look for it.
5. Then, while on your broom, fly to the very Southwest of this place.
6. Then, come back and go to the East. You’ll acquire the third essence right there in the nearby field.

Location 10

1. From the Keenbridge Floo Flame, travel Northwest.
2. You’ll come across Fatimah Lawang’s shop and Demiguise Statues in the beginning.
3. Keep going in this direction until you reach the last road.
4. Search for a large cliff with a Landing Platform on top.
5. If you need help finding all Landing Platform locations, head on over to our Landing Platforms guide.
6. Head West from the Landing Platform to find the Ancient Magic Hotspot.
7. There will be an entrance blocked by some vines.
8. Cast Incendio to access the room.
9. You’ll need to crouch beneath the opening on your immediate right to look for the first essence.
10. Then, for the second essence, you’ll need to find a ladder that you can climb.
11. At the very top of the ladder, find the switch that you can pull out.
12. Push the switch out using Accio and you will easily get access to the second essence.
13. For the final essence, look for another ladder.
14. Climb it and cast Depulso on the crates. You’ll find a hole where the third essence will be.

Location 11

1. Travel to the Feldcroft Floo Flame and then go North from here.
2. You’ll come across a Merlin Trial and a treasure vault.
3. From the vault, head Northwest to get to the shore.
4. The Ancient Magic Hotspot is near the road that’s next to the shore.
5. There is a ladder close to where you’re standing.
6. Climb it and you will find the first essence at the very top.
7. Keep going up and you will encounter some vines.
8. Burn them using Incendio and then get onto the platform. You’ll find the second essence here.
9. Now, for the third essence, you’ll need to travel left.
10. You’ll notice some crates in front of you.
11. You’ll need to cast Depulso to shoot them down and then climb them to reach the other end.

Location 12

1. From the Feldcroft Floo Flame, travel directly East.
2. You’ll find the Ancient Magic Hotspot right on top of the cliff.
3. If you find the Landing Platform or the treasure vault, you have gone too far. But don’t worry. The Hotspot is directly West of them, in some ruins with multiple rooms.
4. Find the entrance to the ruins and the first essence will be right outside the first room.
5. Then, for the second essence, you’ll need to go to the very back of the ruins.
6. Be careful to avoid the trolls patrolling this area. It’s best to use the broom to reach the back.
7. For the third and final essence, stay in the back of the ruins and fly to the ruined building to the very right.

Location 13

1. For this Ancient Magic Hotspot, head on over to the Irondale Floo Flame.
2. From here, go Southwest, across from the stream. It will be right there, with a Landing Platform close by.
3. If you find the treasure vault, simply head North from here and look to the left to find an old abandoned castle.
4. Then, enter the castle through the main entrance and you’ll find the first essence to your immediate right.
5. Now, there will be some platforms next to the entrance.
6. Climb these and you’ll find the second essence at the very top of the platforms.
7. For the third essence, you’ll need to locate the closest treasure vault.
8. From the Ancient Magic Hotspot, travel South, moving slightly East.
9. You’ll find the treasure vault in some ruins. The third essence is outside these ruins, close to the treasure vault.

Location 14

1. Travel to the Phoenix Mountain Cave Floo Flame and head directly South.
2. You can follow the road here as well. Follow the road South until it comes to a divide, with the forks going East and West.
3. Ignore these paths and go South.
4. The Ancient Magic Hotspot will be a short distance from here, at the end of another adjacent road.
5. Here, you’ll find some houses.
6. Go to the very top of the house, either by entering it and using Alohomora I or by flying to the very top. The first essence will be right there.
7. Then, fly back down and you will see an entrance on the side of the house.
8. Enter the place and you’ll easily find the second essence.
9. For the third essence, you’ll need to fly back to the ground and cast Depulso on the wooden planks blocking the entrance to the house.
10. Inside the house, you’ll find some rocks. Cast Depuslo on these to break the rubble apart and then look for the third essence.

Location 15

Location 16

1. This Ancient Magic Hotspot is the easiest to find.
2. Head to the South Poidsear Coast Floo Flame and go South.
3. When you drop down from the cliff, you’ll find a road. Nearby, you’ll find the Ancient Magic Hotspot, close to a bridge.
4. Firstly, you’ll need to go to the other side of the bridge and find some wooden planks blocking the entrance to a house.
5. Break them apart using Depulso and then go inside to get the first essence.
6. Then, for the second essence, you’ll need to go to the larger house that’s at the back of the smaller house.
7. Don’t go inside. Instead, crouch beneath the floor and get to the second essence.
8. Now, find the big room and find the wall block that you can pull out using Accio.
9. Cast Accio to pull out the block and a crate will open up.
10. You can then use this crate to climb on top of it and get access to the top floor. This is where you’ll find the third essence.

Location 17

1. For this Ancient Magic Hotspot, go to the Marunweem Bridge Floo Flame.
2. Then, cross the giant bridge and you will find the Ancient Magic Hotspot right there at the edge of the bridge. It’s close to the Landing Platform for brooms and mounts.
3. However, you’ll need the Alohomora III spell for this.
4. Look to your right and you’ll find some broken platforms. Cast Reparo to fix the platforms and then climb them to get the first essence.
5. Keep climbing the platforms and you’ll come across a block in the wall with a ring that you can pull.
6. Pull it out using Accio and a platform will go down. Get onto this platform then use Alohomora III on the door to access the second essence.
7. Lastly, the third essence can be found right by the water here.
8. Jump down from the platforms and look for the essence close to the water.

Location 18

1. Start from the Marunweem Lake Floo Flame.
2. Go North and follow the road that hugs the shore.
3. Follow this road East until you reach a left turn.
4. Turn here and, at the dead end, head West. You’ll find the Hogwarts Legacy Ancient Magic Hotspot inside some ruins.
5. There is an essence nearby that you can simply acquire by flying to.
6. For the second essence, you’ll need to go to the center of the room and open up two crates.
7. You can do so using Confringo. This should expose a set of mechanisms that control a door.
8. You’ll need to cast Depulso on this mechanism multiple times to open up the door and acquire the second essence.
9. For the third essence, you’ll need to use your broom to go around the ruins.

Location 19

1. This Ancient Magic Hotspot is pretty easy to find.
2. First, travel to the West Manor Cape Floo Flame. Then, head East to the big castle where you do the Cursed Tomb Treasure quest.
3. The Ancient Magic Hotspot is near the back of the house.
4. You’ll need to strike the floor with a magic spell so that a cube drops down.
5. Then, you’ll need to cast Levioso to make the cube hover. Climb up this cube and then acquire the first essence.
6. For the second essence, you’ll need to look for the rafters. It’s right on top of them.
7. The easiest way to get here is via flying on your broom.
8. Then, for the third and final essence, you’ll need to go to the very top of the castle.
9. You can climb your way up with the Alohomora III spell. But you can also fly to the top.

Location 20

1. The final Ancient Magic Hotspot can be found in Cragcroftshire. First, head to the Cragcroft Shore Floo Flame.
2. From here, drop down from the cliff and follow the road Southwest.
3. Then, as the road forks, take the East path and follow the road Eastward.
4. Stay close to the shore and you’ll come across a Merlin Trial and then the Ancient Magic Hotspot: an old tower.
5. There are three essences to be found here.
6. The first essence is found while you’re climbing up the tower. At the very top, you’ll need to jump to the side where you will acquire the second essence.
7. Finally, you’ll need to mount your broom and trace down the Northern face of the tower. The third essence will be here in plain sight.

Are These Worth It?

For a completionist playthrough, yes, Ancient Magic locations are definitely worth visiting in the game as it opens the boundaries of exploration. It might feel a little tricky at the start, but once you are aware of the right steps, it will be really easy. 

There are 20 Ancient Magic Hotspots in Hogwarts Legacy dotted throughout the enormous map. You can’t access all of these at once, as some areas require a higher level to unlock.
