Next up in my Goalkeepers guide, we have Ederson. The name Ederson refers to Ederson Santana de Moraes, a Brazilian goalkeeper who now plays for Manchester City in the Premier League and the Brazil national team. The Brazilian international player is renowned for taking a variety of chances with his passes, even though it’s possible that one of his opponents can recover possession and give themselves a chance to score.

Career

• Praised for his speed, decisiveness, and physical prowess, Ederson is a formidable presence in goal known for his anticipation of opponents’ moves.
• Manchester City acquired him in 2017 for £35 million, setting a record for the highest transfer fee for a goalkeeper at the time.

Alisson excels in facing individual opponents, making crucial saves that often decide games. His precision in placement and distribution further enhances his reputation.

• Alisson began his career at Internacional, winning the Campeonato Gaucho championship for four consecutive seasons.
• He joined Roma in July 2016 and earned Serie A Goalkeeper of the Year for 2017–18.
• Liverpool broke the transfer record for a goalkeeper, paying £66.8 million for him in July 2018.
• With Liverpool, he has won multiple titles, including the UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup, EFL Cup, and Premier League.

Jan Oblak

Another one to add to the Best Goalkeepers of Fifa 23 list is Jan Oblak. Slovenian-born goalkeeper Jan Oblak currently competes in La Liga for the Atlético Madrid squad. Oblak is the team captain for the national football team of Slovenia. Numerous football analysts consider Oblak, a tall, athletic, and physically strong goalkeeper, to be among the best in the world.

Oblak’s exceptional reading of plays, agility, and quick reflexes contribute to his success. He’s adept at ball handling, commanding his area effectively, and excels in aerial duels.

Gianluigi Donnarumma

In my opinion, one of the most recognizable goalkeepers in the world is Gianluigi Donnarumma. Nicol Donnarumma, a goalkeeper, born in Italy, currently plays for Ligue 1’s Paris Saint-Germain and the Italian national team. He is known as Cavaliere OMRI. Initially, he was a player for AC Milan before making a significant move to Paris Saint-Germain. He has been around for what feels like an eternity already.

FIFA 23 accurately depicts his status. He is among the best goalkeepers overall, let alone among the best under the age of 23. He only accepts the absolute elite. Donnarumma is regarded as one of his generation’s most talented young players and has long been considered one of Italy’s most exciting prospects.

Many people consider him to be Gianluigi Buffon’s potential successor. Even Buffon has praised his prowess on the field multiple times.

Career

Starting at AC Milan, Donnarumma made a significant move to Paris Saint-Germain, solidifying his status as one of the best under 23.

Renowned for his focus, intelligence, and discipline, Donnarumma’s large physique doesn’t hinder his agility, especially evident in his successful penalty saves.

Keylor Navas

Keylor Navas, also known as Keilor Antonio Navas Gamboa, is a 35-year-old Costa Rican goalkeeper who plays for Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1 and the Costa Rica national team. Known for his quickness, agility, and athleticism, Navas has a reputation for lightning-quick reflexes and superb shot-blocking abilities, compensating for his shorter stature. He began his career at Saprissa before moving to clubs like Albacete and Levante in La Liga.

At Levante, he earned the LFP Award for Best Goalkeeper. Navas joined Real Madrid in 2014, winning three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles. In 2019, he moved to Paris Saint-Germain.

Navas has represented Costa Rica in over 100 matches since his debut in 2008, participating in CONCACAF Gold Cups and FIFA World Cups. He is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in CONCACAF and Latin American history, with his standout performances earning him numerous individual awards and widespread acclaim.

Marc-Andre Ter Stegen

Marc-André Ter Stegen is indeed one of the standout goalkeepers in the football world, known for his exceptional shot-stopping abilities, quick reflexes, and strong presence between the posts. His agility, passing accuracy, and ball-handling skills make him a valuable asset for both Barcelona and the German national team.

Ter Stegen’s career highlights include winning numerous titles with Barcelona, including the Copa del Rey and UEFA Champions League. His performance in the Bundesliga with Borussia Mönchengladbach before joining Barcelona showcased his talent and potential at a young age.

Internationally, Ter Stegen has represented Germany at various levels and has been a part of major tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro. His ability to make crucial saves, including stopping penalties, has earned him the nickname “Berlin Wall” and solidified his reputation as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

Mike Maignan

Mike Peterson Maignan is known as a French goalkeeper who now competes for both the French national team and Serie A club AC Milan. They came to terms on a five-year contract that started in 2021.

Career

Maignan began his career in the Paris Saint-Germain youth system, earning accolades such as the Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year in 2018–19 and winning the league championship in 2020–21. He later transferred to AC Milan for €15 million, winning Serie A in his debut season.

Debuting for the French national team in 2020, Maignan has represented France at various youth levels, culminating in his selection for UEFA Euro 2020.

In 2021, Maignan ranked among the top goalkeepers in Europe, recording high clean sheet numbers and boasting the highest overall save percentage in major European leagues.

He was honored with the Serie A Best Goalkeeper award before the conclusion of the 2021-2022 season.

David De Gea

Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea Quintana competes for the Spanish national team and Premier League club Manchester United. In the middle of the 2010s, he was famous as one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He is a right-footed Spanish goalkeeper who has proved his worth time and time again. His card is rated 87 because he stands 192 cm (6’4″) tall. Such a build allows him to make those long-range saves with the extra reach.

Career

However, he lacks a true face in-game and has a 3-star weak foot and a 1-star skill move rating. His goal-scoring average over 107,398 games was 0.000. He responds well to the GK BASIC chemistry style. He turned 31 years old in 2017 and was born on July 11, 1990.

At the World Cup in 2014, he made his senior team debut. The 2018 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 European Championship, where De Gea started for Spain, brought criticism for his play. As a result, Unai Simón received his usual spot in the 2020 European Championship.

Hugo Lloris

Hugo Lloris is a French goalkeeper for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League and the France national team. He’s won the Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year award three times. Known for his quick reactions and anticipation, he’s celebrated for his game-reading abilities. However, he’s faced criticism for occasional mistakes and injury woes throughout his career.

Recently, he marked his 300th appearance for Tottenham in a match against Manchester City. He’s also played a crucial role in France’s World Cup qualification.

Wojciech Szczesny

Moving on with my list, we have Wojciech Szczesny. Wojciech Tomasz Szczesny is a Polish professional football goalkeeper who competes for the Poland national team and the Serie A club Juventus. Nowadays, he saves goals as Juventus’ goalkeeper. He receives an overall rating of 86 in Fifa 23. He is right-footed and has a movement skill rating of one star. Wojciech Szczesny stands 195 cm tall and weighs 90 kg.

Szczesny has played for Poland more than 60 times since making his international debut in 2009. He participated in Euro 2016, the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and Euro 2020 as a team member that co-hosted UEFA Euro 2012.

Kevin Trapp

Kevin Trapp is a German goalkeeper who plays for Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga and the German national team. He started his career with FC Kaiserslautern and signed a deal with Frankfurt in 2019, with a release clause of €61.2 million until 2024.

Trapp wears number 22 for the German national team and has earned 21 caps for Germany’s senior team, in addition to 11 caps for the under-21 team. He has competed in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Trapp stands at 189 cm tall, weighs 84 kg, and has an overall rating of 86 in FIFA 23.

Edouard Mendy

Édouard Mendy is a Senegalese goalkeeper for Chelsea in the Premier League and the Senegal national team. Born on March 1, 1992, he is 30 years old and stands at 197cm (6’6″). In FIFA 23, he has an overall rating of 86, with a 2-star weak foot and 1-star skill move rating. Mendy has played 112,385 games with a GPG of 0.000 and performs well with the GK BASIC chemistry style.

He began his career in the Le Havre academy before playing for Cherbourg in the third division. Despite nearly quitting football in 2014, he found success with Marseille’s reserves, then established himself at Reims and Rennes.

Mendy represented Senegal in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, helping them finish second and winning the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, where he was named the best goalkeeper. He initially considered playing for Guinea-Bissau but ultimately chose Senegal.

Yann Sommer

Yann Sommer is a Swiss goalkeeper for Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga and the Switzerland national team. Standing at 183 cm tall, he has an overall rating of 85 in FIFA 23. Sommer has a medium/medium work rate and a 1-star talent technique and 4-star weak feet.

In 11,041 games, he has a Goal Per Game of 0.000 and responds well to the GK BASIC chemistry strategy. Sommer began his career in Basel before moving to Mönchengladbach in 2014, where he has enjoyed success. He made his international debut for Switzerland in 2012 and has represented them in multiple FIFA World Cups and UEFA European Championships.

Peter Gulacsi

Péter Gulácsi is a 32-year-old goalkeeper for the Hungary national team and the Bundesliga club RB Leipzig football. His total rating for this card in FIFA 23 is 85. He has a 1-star skill movement rating and is right-footed. Peter Gulácsi weighs 86 kg and has a height of 191 cm.

Gulácsi got his first call-up for Hungary in May 2008, but he didn’t play in the team’s 1-1 tie with Croatia.

In the FIFA U-20 World Cup penalty shootout against the Czech Republic, Gulácsi saved Hungary from defeat. He helped his team win and win the bronze medal in the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup third-place match between Hungary and Costa Rica by saving three penalties in the shootout.

On June 4, 2012, Sándor Egervári invited him to play for Hungary in a friendly match against the Republic of Ireland, but he declined.

On May 22, 2014, Gulácsi made his senior squad debut in a 2-2 tie with Denmark.

Emiliano Martínez

Lastly, my Best Goalkeepers guide has Emiliano Martínez. Damián Emiliano Martnez Romero is an Argentine professional football goalkeeper who competes for both the Argentina national team and Premier League side Aston Villa. He has competed for Argentina as a young international, competing at the under-17 and under-20 levels. In addition to helping his country win the 2021 Copa América and the Golden Glove for the latter after maintaining a clean sheet in the championship game, he also received his first cap for the senior national team in 2021.

He is also the goalkeeper (GK) for Aston Villa at the moment. For this particular card, he receives an overall FIFA 23 rating of 84. He has one star of movement skill and is right-footed with a medium work rate. Moreover, his build comes in at 195 cm tall and 88 kg in weight. He has a GPG of 0.001 and has been in 63,743 games. He responds well to the GK BASIC chemistry style.

I am a dedicated enthusiast when it comes to football. I have played fifa since my childhood. While I understand that players have varied preferences when it comes to goalkeepers, depending on their unique preferences, I’ve found a few standout favorites in FIFA 23. Thibaut Courtois is surly one of those players that holds a special place in my heart, consistently earning their spots as my top choices between the goalposts.
