All of your Pokémon breed through the picnic. When you choose Pokémon male and female of the same kind, they will breed with each other and lay an egg in the basket during the picnic.

So, technically there are two methods of breeding one is a common breeding technique while the other is breeding via Ditto. Now you are wondering how to implement those methods. I will explain each method step by step. Let’s start the breeding of your Pokémon!

Methodology#1

In this method, I will teach you how to use Ditto Pokémon for breeding purposes. You will also learn how to hatch those eggs and where to find the required Pokémon for this breeding technique.

Step#1

1. You must be wondering why only Ditto is used for breeding because Ditto is a special type of Pokémon that can breed with any gender (male or female) Pokémon. 
2. You should head towards the Town of Medali because in this place you will be able to find Ditto’s pretty easily, and it’s a fast teleport area.
3. This image represents the area where you can find Ditto. Ditto is a kind of Pokémon that lives near towns and cities.
4. Ditto’s specialty is that it disguises itself as another Pokémon.
5. If you see a Pokémon that is not coming at you, then that Pokémon can be Ditto.
6. Let us take an example, the image shown contains six Pokémon, including Ditto.
7. Ditto will breed each Pokémon individually as it is a universal breeder of Pokémon.

Step#2

1. After setting up the picnic, you will have to wait until eggs are laid, and this happens over time.
2. Once an egg is laid you will find it in the basket. The normal time to get an egg is about 2 hours. So, how to speed up the process?
3. You will need to get the meal power which is called egg power.
4. You can go to any shop and take a meal that has an egg power of 1 or from the recipe mode, you can make your sandwich that has an egg power of 1.
5. With higher egg power, you can get eggs even faster.
6. For instance, I made a three-star dessert sandwich with an egg power of 1.

The total amount of eggs you can get from a basket is 10. You will need to collect all the eggs one by one.

The amount of time required to get eggs is 30 minutes. You can see this timer by just clicking the right control stick of your controller. Set up the timer for 30 minutes and then collect eggs from the basket. When you collect these eggs, they are automatically stored in your inventory box.

Step#3

1. So, before you put eggs in the current party, you will need a flame body Pokémon or one with magma armor.
2. The best flame body Pokémon are Carkol, Fletchlinder, Charco debt, and Volcarona.
3. These Pokémon reduce the hatching time by 50%.
4. I recommend you Carkol as it is great for hatching eggs faster.
5. Starting from Crater to East Province (area three) location you can find Carkol very easily.

Step#4

1. Finally, make sure to exit the picnic and start running with your mounts to hatch the eggs faster.
2. After hatching a batch of eggs, go to your Pokémon box and select another batch of eggs.
3. This way, keep hatching eggs with your flame body Pokémon and egg power.

Methodology#2

This method focuses more on the common breeding technique you might have used in previous Pokémon games.

Choose the two Pokémon you want to breed. Make sure they are compatible! You can check compatibility by checking the Pokémon’s Pokédex entries. Compatible means that those 2 Pokémon are in the same egg group or not. However, if you want to breed between two different species of Pokémon you can do it as well.

1. After confirming their compatibility, you can follow the same steps as I discussed in Methodology 1.
2. You will need to set up the picnic and wait for about 30 minutes if you have used the meal power or simply egg power.
3. Once you have collected all the eggs from the stack, you should place a batch of eggs in the current party along with a flame body Pokémon which will increase the hatching process.
4. Afterward, start moving around with your mounts to hatch eggs.

Best Techniques For Breeding Pokémon 

There are a few different techniques you can use when breeding Pokémon, and it depends on what you’re looking for in a Pokémon.

 If you want a Pokémon with the best stats possible, then you’ll want to use the IV breeding technique. If you’re looking for a Pokémon with a specific move, then you’ll want to use the Masuda Method. And if you just want a Pokémon that’s strong and healthy, then you can use the Basic Breeding technique.

IV breeding is a bit more complicated, but essentially what you’re doing is breeding two Pokémon together that have high IVs (individual values) in the hopes that their offspring will inherit those high IVs.

 The Masuda Method is named after Game Freak’s Junichi Masuda, and it’s used to breed two Pokémon of different nationalities together. This increases the chance of their offspring being shiny, which is always a plus.

 And finally, the Basic Breeding technique is just breeding two strong and healthy Pokémon together without worrying about IVs or specific move sets.

How To Breed Perfect IV Pokémon?

Now you have learned the basics of how to breed Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet, and you want to breed a powerful Pokémon which have a higher IV (individual values), then do not worry; I will show you all the necessary information related to breeding a perfect IV Pokémon.

Step#1

1. Firstly, you will need to have the flame body or magma body Pokémon as they increase the hatching process.
2. I  recommend you choose Fletchinder as a flame body Pokémon.
3. You can also choose Carkol as discussed earlier. Both tend to decrease hatch timing.
4. Fletchinder is easy to catch as it is available very early in the game.
5. Because it is present in those areas where you start your journey of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, its location is shown in the image given below.

Step#2

1. Next, you should start to collect the ingredients for the sandwich as the sandwich increases the breeding process.
2. Start collecting items like peanut butter, tomato, banana, and also silver pick.
3. Silver pick is important because, without it, you cannot make your sandwich.

Step#3

1. Another important step is to collect special items from the Delibird Presents shop.
2. You will need to buy Destiny Knot, which will cost you about 20,000 poka dollars or league points.
3. This is a very essential item in the whole breeding process for passing down the IV characteristics in the baby Pokémon.
4. Everstone is another major item that you will find in the general goods menu of Delibird Presents shop.
5. If you attach this stone to your IV Pokémon, you can ensure that its nature will be transferred to the baby Pokémon.

Step#4

1. Next, you can have a Ditto at your party.
2. This Pokémon is not necessary as it makes the breeding process much easier.
3. You can use high IV Ditto but if you have a zero-star Ditto that will also do the work.
4. There are up to 6-star Dittos that help you in making a compatible Pokémon of your own.

Step#5

1. Another major item you have to have is IV judge. IV judge is available after you complete the whole main story.
2. Now, after completing the whole main story all you need to do is visit the Pokémon center, and they will inform you about the IV judge.
3. IV judge shows the royal stats of a particular Pokémon.
4. You need to go to the boxes menu and there press the + button of your controller; then IV judge will show you the IV of that Pokémon.
5. So, there is a description in IV of Pokémon given with words like Decent, very good, good, or not good at all.
6. All these words have specific points, which you can see in the image given below. With this table, you can judge how better compatible your Pokémon is.

Step#6

1. The last thing you need to do is to set up the picnic between IV Pokemon and a Ditto.
2. Then you need to use your ingredients like a sandwich, Destiny knot, and Everstone.
3. Take eggs from the stack and follow the same procedure as discussed earlier.
4. For example, I bred a Tikaton Pokémon with a Ditto.
5. The results I got after breeding were quite satisfying. The image shown below shows that baby Tikaton had taken the IVs and nature of parent Tikaton.
