Final Fantasy 16: BEST Weapons [Detailed Comparison]

Here's my list of Final Fantasy 16 best weapons to help you slay your foes after playing the game for 70+ hours!.

Final Fantasy 16 Best Weapons.

Final Fantasy 16 has a wide variety of gear and weapons, with different means of acquiring them. The most common method is crafting the weapons at the blacksmith using the materials the player has collected throughout their missions.

Weapons have 2 main stats. Attack and Stagger, where the attack is the weapon’s base damage, and Stagger is you knocking down the enemy after their stagger gauge runs out. The higher the stagger stat on a weapon, the more the stagger gauge will be depleted after a hit from it.

I have played Final Fantasy 16 for more than 70+ hours, and my PSN Tag is SHiNiGaMii. I have played the game extensively, so you can easily trust the hands-on experience I bring to the table!

Key Takeaways

  • Final Fantasy has a list of weapons, each with their stats of Attack and Stagger.
  • My pick for the best FF16 weapons in the first play-through in order are the Gotterdammerung, the Defender, and the Ragnarok.
  • The best sword in the game, according to my experience, is the Ultima Weapon.
  • The Ragnarok is a unique weapon also needed to craft the Gotterdammerung, the Ultima Weapon, and some other strong armaments in the NG game mode.

1. Gotterdammerung

Best Craftable Weapon.
Attack Stagger
375 375

Why did I choose Gotterdammerung?

It is the best option available for the first play-through, as the damage output is enough to dominate your enemies.

The Gotterdammerung is the best weapon of Final Fantasy 16, at least in the first play-through. That is because it has the highest base attack at 375 and the highest base stagger at 375.

To craft the Gotterdammerung, you’ll need to acquire the Gotterdammerung Design Draft Curiosity and successfully complete the side quest known as Blacksmith’s Blues IV. Blackthorne is the master blacksmith who can assist you in crafting this remarkable weapon. You can create it at Cid’s Hideaway, where his forge is located.

The crafting materials needed are as follows:

MaterialQuantity
Ragnarok1
Orichalcum3
Darksteel2
Primitive Battlehorn1

  • High Attack and Stagger stats.
  • No need for reinforcement.
  • Unique Trophy Reward.

  • Difficult Acquisition.
  • Resource Intensive.

2. Defender

Best Weapon for Offense & Defense.
Rank Attack Stagger
+0 320 320
+1 330 330
+2 340 340

Why did I choose Defender?

A defense-intensive weapon that can stop the hardest attacks and develop a powerful counter.

The Defender at +2 is the second-best weapon of Final Fantasy 16. It has the second-highest Attack and staggers out of any weapon at 340 and is a force to be reckoned with.

The Defender can be purchased at Charon’s Toll for 5000 Gil, the Cid’s Hideawayshop.

The player can upgrade the weapon by reinforcing it with the help of the NPC Blackthorne. Below I will list all the crafting materials required for Defender.

RankMaterial 1Material 2Material 3Material 4
+1Behemoth Shackle x 1Fallen Iron x 1Clutchmine x 40Wyrrite x 790
+2Defender+1 x 1Meteorite x 8Sharp Fang x 400Clutchmine x 40

  • High Attack Power.
  • Stagger Ability.
  • Allows Upgrades for enhanced stats.

  • No HP boost.
  • Materials for Reinforcement are difficult to collect.

3. Ragnarok

Best New Game+ Weapon.
Attack Stagger
325 325

Why You Should Go With Ragnarok?

The Ragnarok weapon can be your perfect companion for defeating harsh opponents until you reach the NG Mode.

The Ragnarok is the third-best sword because of its high base stats at 325 Attack and Stagger. This weapon is special in its place in the game, however, due to it being a crafting material for two weapons, one being the Gotterdammerung.

The Ragnarok can be rewarded by clearing all the Blacksmith’s Blues side quests that players can do during the main story. Here is the list of side quests:

Side Quest NameNPC to get the quest
Blacksmith's Blues IAugust
Blacksmith's Blues IIMid
Blacksmith's Blues IIIAugust
Blacksmith's Blues IVAugust

I must also mention that it is a base weapon required for crafting the Ultima Weapon, Gotterdammerung, and other very strong armaments in NG. This adds another level of choice in the gameplay, if you want to pursue an endgame playthrough or just finish the storyline.

  • Base weapon for powerful NG weapons.
  • High Stagger and Damage.

  • Cannot be crafted.
  • No upgrades for Ragnarok weapon.

4. Ultima Weapon

Ultimate Weapon in Final Fantasy 16.
Attack Stagger
700 700

Why did I choose Ultima Weapon?

It is the most powerful weapon in Final Fantasy 16. Consider yourself on top of the world with this weapon in your hands!

The Ultima Weapon in Final Fantasy 16 is the game’s most powerful sword, surpassing all others in stats. However, there is a catch – it can only be crafted after completing the game in NG (New Game) mode.

To obtain this exceptional weapon, players must first complete the game and then replay it in NG mode, specifically on the harder difficulty known as the “Final Fantasy difficulty.” It’s the ultimate reward for those seeking a formidable challenge in the game.

The materials required to make the Ultima Weapon are:

MaterialQuantity
Ragnarok (Base Weapon)1
Utterance of Creation1
Ultima Weapon Crafting Material3

To craft the weapon after getting the materials, I advise you to speak to the blacksmith at the hideout and forge it.

  • Very High Damage Output.
  • Surpasses all other weapons in FF16 in comparison to damage stats.

  • You can only craft it after reaching NG mode.
  • Complex Crafting Method.

What Would I Recommend?

I recommend using Ultima Weapon as an ideal choice for endgame playthrough and character build progression. Or you can craft Gotterdammerung to dominate in the early game and clear most stages easily. The choice is completely yours and should fit best with your ideal playthrough.

I love how the developers have designed Final Fantasy 16; they have made weapons for each phase of the lore and then replaced them with better ones. Following the pattern, I have tested all the weapons in the game and chosen the best ones for your ease. I hope this guide was of some help, and I would love to know how you’ve been enjoying the game so far.
