God of War Ragnarok: All Puzzles [Full List]

God of War Ragnarok has several tricky puzzles that are pretty challenging to get past. However, you don’t need to sweat it. We have listed down all of the solutions to the many different puzzles you can find in the game.

Your very first encounter with a puzzle in the game is in Jarnsmida Pitmines. Additionally, the next puzzle is a set of 3 puzzles in Applecore that involve water wheels. Finally, there are several Nornir Chest puzzles. Most of these puzzles require a Leviathan Axe for freezing water and geysers.

So without any further ado, here are all of the puzzles in God of War Ragnarok and how to solve them.

Jarnsmida Pitmines Puzzle

The first puzzle that you encounter in the game is in Jarnsmida Pitmines. After traveling through the mines with Atreus, you’ll reach the Pitmines. Here, you will be faced with your first puzzle.

To solve the puzzle, here’s what you need to do:

1. Clear all enemies in the area first.
2. Locate the Soundstones to the right and use Atreus’s Sonic arrows to destroy them.
3. Proceed through the Pitmines until you reach the water channel with a giant box underneath.
4. Freeze the water by throwing your Leviathan Axe, stopping the water wheel.
5. Use the nearby swing to cross to the other side and land on the chests.
6. Continue to find the bridge and cross it to access the next puzzle.
7. Jam your axe into the gear next to the bridge to stop it at the right level.
8. Look for the two hanging stones below the crane and destroy them with your arrows to allow water to flow again.

10. Then, move on to Applecore.

Svartalfheim Mines Puzzle

Once you reach Applecore, you’ll find that there is a series of water puzzles that you must solve. These puzzles are pretty tricky and often leave many players stranded with no way out.

The water puzzle is divided into 3 separate puzzles. After you complete all 3 of these puzzles, you will be able to move on to the next section.

Puzzle 1

For the first puzzle, you’ll need to lift a rock submerged in water so that you can jump across it. You’ll need to change the configuration of the water wheels to release the block of stone. Here’s how to release the giant rock:

1. Upon entering the first door, go right and look up to find Ores blocking the water flow.
2. Use your arrows to shoot the Ores and release the water flow. Look for waves emitting green color to identify the Ores.

3. One arrow per Ore is sufficient to clear the path. The released water will activate a wheel connected to a chain.
4. Freeze the water using your Leviathan Axe, aiming at the appropriate spot to freeze it.
5. Strike your axe just above the frozen water to bring it down.
6. The ice block will make the wheel rotate and lift the chain.
7. Use the chain to jump across the gap in front of you.

Puzzle 2

After getting through the first puzzle, you’ll have to solve another water puzzle. This is where most people falter. Fortunately, we have all the steps figured out. Here’s how to solve the 2nd puzzle in Svartalfheim:

1. Fight enemies on the right side after entering the room.

2. Continue past the Ormr reptile and find a giant metal block held by a chain. Strike it with your axe to release it.

3. Go up and locate a red spot to find a gate blocking water flow. Pull the first chain to open the gate and release the water.

4. Jump across the gap on the left and freeze the geyser with your Leviathan Axe to cross it.

5. Proceed to the stony path on the left and battle the enemies.

6. Reach a geyser, uncap it, and refreeze the previous one you crossed. The metal block will lower onto the geyser.

7. Quickly hit the chain with your axe as it rises to make the block fall.

8. Face the second geyser you uncapped earlier and refreeze it to raise the block.

9. Access the next platform easily. Locate the chain controlling the second water gate.

10. Pull the chain to lower the watergate and release the water.

11. Return to the starting point, find the boat, and use it to progress through the water gate.

Final Puzzle (Puzzle 3)

After completing the second puzzle, you’ll have just one last water puzzle to complete. In this puzzle, you’ll be needing Atreus’s help. Here’s how to solve the second puzzle:

1. First, you can see that Atreus is standing over the chasm on the other side. You can interact with him by pressing the square button. Interact with Atreus and instruct him to release the Ores into the water. This will stop the natural flow of the water.
2. Now, use your Leviathan Axe to freeze up the water so that you can use it to rotate the water wheel.

3. After that, ask Atreus to release some Ores into the canal.
4. Now, recall your axe and aim at the waterways at the right to freeze them.
5. Go to the jumping platform. Now, Atreus should launch his Sonic arrows at the Ores that he dropped to free up the canal.
6. Grab onto the platform as the cranes start moving and bring you to Atreus. The puzzle is now complete.

Nornir Chest Puzzles

Alfheim The Below Nornir Chest Puzzle

In Alfheim The Below, you’ll need to find a Nornir Chest. This chest can be found after the lore ends, locked behind a closed gate. This chest is considered by many to be the hardest chest to find.

You can only access the Nornir Chest after completing the “Secret of the Sands” favor. If you’re having trouble completing that quest, head on over to our Secret of the Sands guide. Here’s how to solve the puzzle:

1. Go to the general area of the Nornir Chest and climb up the ledge.
2. Grab the Zipline and head left.
3. On the other side of the Zipline, locate the part of the mountain you can climb.
4. You’ll see two gates; the first gate requires reaching the other side of the mountain.
5. For the other gate, climb the mountain and break the 3 seals using your axe.
6. Find the first seal just below the first chest by following the path of blue jumping points on the

7. You’ll find a door to the right. Open it and ring the seal.
8. Now, run down and find the second seal, which will be just opposite the chest.

9. A gate will open. Enter the gate and walk the path that leads into the cave that has Twilight Stones. You can easily find the third seal on the left of the door you just entered through. Hit it with your axe.

10. Now, the Nornir chest in Alfheim’s The Below location will be unlocked.
