How To Get Ray Gun in MW3 Zombies [Play-Tested Method]

The zombie mode features an expansive map containing a variety of loot opportunities. One of the most powerful weapons you can obtain in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies is a Ray Gun. However, to no one’s surprise, acquiring this firearm proves to be exceptionally rare. Continue reading to find out how to get Ray Gun in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies.

There are currently three methods by which players can get the rare Ray Gun. They are:

• Open the Mystery Boxes
• Craft With the Schematics
• Clear Legacy Fortress Outpost

Open the Mystery Boxes

A more straightforward approach to getting a Ray Gun is to open Mystery Boxes scattered throughout the large zombie-infested map simply. Here’s how to find and open Mystery Boxes for a chance to receive Ray Gun:

1. Look for a blue light aiming at the sky.
2. You can also locate spawned Mystery Boxes on the Tac Map, as they’re marked with a crate and question mark.
3. Once you’ve located the Mystery Box, go there.
4. Now, you can open the Mystery Box in exchange for 950 Essence.
5. A random reward will appear- a Ray Gun if you’re lucky enough.

Craft With the Schematics

Another method includes a slightly of a longer approach. You can craft a Ray Gun by yourself if Mystery Boxes aren’t working in your favor. Find the Ray Gun’s schematics and craft the gun by going to the Gear tab. 

1. Start by completing a Bounty Contract in a red zone (higher threat).
2. I recommend the Bounty Contract with Mega Abomination boss, as it supposedly has the highest drop rate of Ray Gun Schematics.
3. A reward rift will appear once you’ve defeated the Mega Abomination boss. Interact with it for the reward to appear.
4. If you’re lucky, you’ll receive the Schematics of Ultra-rare Ray Gun.
5. Once you have the Schematic, immediately exfil.
6. Now select the Gear option in the menu and choose “Schematics Crafting” in your Rucksack.
7. Scroll down till you find the Wonder Weapons list.
8. Select the Ray Gun to craft it and add it to the Rucksack slot. You can craft Ray Gun every 48 hours.
9. Once done, start a new match and equip the Wonder Weapon firearm.

Note: Ray Gun Schematics are rare to spawn in the reward rifts, so you may require completing a lot of high-threat Bounty Contracts before finally running into one.

Clear Legacy Fortress Outpost

The last method to obtain the Ray Gun has the highest drop rate. However, the journey for it is quite difficult.

1. For this, you need to defeat the Legacy Boss while clearing Legacy Fortress. I’d strongly recommend players bring in some friends, as clearing Legacy Fortress is not a child’s play.
2. Once you manage to clear Legacy Fortress successfully, you’ll be rewarded a handful of high-quality loot.
3. This can range from various weapon Schematics to the Wonder Weapons themselves – which includes the Ray Gun.
4. Therefore, make sure to clear Legacy Fortress Outpost if you need to increase your changes of winning the Ray Gun faster.
5. Once obtained, you can keep the gun in your inventory for the next match.

My Thoughts On Ray Gun

While acquiring the Ray Gun can be a bit bothersome, it’s still the right choice. I had the most fun playing with this silly-looking yet one of the most powerful firearms in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies. If you’re not looking forward to spending a lot of Essence to obtain Ray Gun, you should go with the crafting method.
