Why did I choose HUGS (Hunter + Gunslinger)?

It combines the two weapon specialists that make any weapon overpowered. The blend of perks that mark and deal extra damage to marked enemies with more incredible weapon reload speed, fire rate, and ammo perks ensure maximum damage possible.

Required Archetypes

You may already be familiar with the Dual Archetypes mechanic of Remnant 2. You can fully enjoy the main Archetype you choose at the beginning of your playthrough, and you can also equip another Archetype later on. It’ll allow players to be creative with their playstyle with loads of varieties to choose from.

Prime Archetype: Hunter

  • In-game Description: The HUNTER specializes in ranged damage, precision shots, and marking enemies.

I chose the Hunter Archetype as my starting class, and I’ve found it to be quite beginner-friendly. It specializes in dealing ranged burst damage, which suits my playstyle perfectly. I enjoy hanging back and taking precise shots at my targets’ weak spots.

One of the standout features of the Hunter Archetype is its Prime Perk, known as “Dead to Rights.” This perk enhances the active skill’s duration based on the damage dealt with ranged attacks on weak spots. Initially, the active skill lasts for 2.5 seconds, but with upgrades to the Prime Perk, it can extend all the way to 3.5 seconds.

This means I have more time to line up my shots and make the most of my ranged abilities. It’s a great choice for players who prefer a more strategic and calculated approach to combat.

There are four additional Hunter Perks that enhance the player’s:

  • Ranged and Weakspot Damage
  • Reload Speed
  • Ammo Drop Rate
  • Hunter Skill duration

These are a perfect bonus set for Hunter as a Prime Archetype.

Secondary Archetype: Gunslinger

  • In-game Description: The Gunslinger specializes in raw damage, firearm handling, and ammo conservation.

The Gunslinger Archetype combines perfectly with the Hunter as the Base Archetype. The Prime Perk of Gunslinger instantly reloads both equipped weapons when activating a Gunslinger Skill and provides 5s of infinite reserve ammo, extendable to 6.5s-8s with upgrades.

There are four Archetype Perks for Gunslinger, enhancing:

  1. Fire Rate and Ranged Damage
  2. Ammo drop
  3. Reload Speed
  4. Reloading Firearms

This synergy between Hunter and Gunslinger improves overall damage output and reload speed, making it one of the best combinations in Remnant 2.

Best Weapon Loadout

Your weapon loadout includes a Long Gun, a Hand Gun, and finally, a Melee weapon. A good combination of equipped weapons can help with enhancing various functions an Archetype comes with; therefore, make sure you select the right set of firearms along with a perfect melee weapon.

Long Gun: XMG57 Bonesaw

  • Enigma is a powerful mid-ranged handgun with high damage output. It pairs effectively with the XMG57 Bonesaw. When my secondary weapon overheats or enemies get too close, I switch to Enigma for quick crowd control.
  • The longer you hold the trigger, the smaller the reticle gets, making the shots more accurate. XMG57 Bonesaw does come with the drawback of longer reload time, but both your Archetype perks help improve that.
  • The magazine capacity is huge (150 rounds), which is normally the case with all automatic machine guns.
  • XMG57 Bonesaw is prone to overheating upon constant fire; therefore, keep pausing occasionally and avoid overusing. You can switch to your Primary weapon in the meantime.
  • I highly recommend Hot Shot as your Weapon Mod, as it can increase the weapon’s Ranged Damage by 15% for the 20s. The incoming shots will also apply BURNING for 10s on the target. Moreover, each time you use Hot Spot, your weapon will instantly reload itself. The Weapon Mod will require 1250 Mod Power.

Hand Gun: Enigma

Enigma is a powerful mid-ranged handgun with high damage output. It pairs effectively with the XMG57 Bonesaw. When my secondary weapon overheats or enemies get too close, I switch to Enigma for quick crowd control.

  • Enigma shoots off an electrical beam that spreads across nearby enemies (within 7.5m). It also applies the OVERLOADED status effect.
  • The Weapon Mod, Chaos Driver, boosts an already insane weapon. The opponents get an electrical rod that spreads and tethers across the area. A 20 SHOCK Damage per second is also applied from the tether. Additional 50 SHOCK Damage per second with 25% more damage per extra rod. It is surely a perfect weapon against adds and does not require you to aim precisely at all.

Enigma got nerfed a bit in a recent update but still does decent damage and even got Total Reserves Capacity increased.

Note: For a melee weapon, you can choose whichever melee weapon you’d like, as it does not impact the Remnant 2 DPS Build directly. The same goes for Armor Sets too.

Best Accessories

Players can equip accessories that provide additional perks and bonuses to the character. These accessories include Rings and Amulets. Here are the recommended Rings and Amulets for your Best DPS build in Remnant 2.

Rings

Rings
Best Rings – Image Credits: VeryAli Gaming
  • Zania’s Malice: Dealing weak spot damage increases weak spot damage by 10% for 7s. Stacks 3x.
  • Stone of Expanse: Increases Ranged damage by 12%. Reduces all other damage dealt by 6%.
  • Gunslinger’s Ring: Increases Firearm Swap Speed by 30% and Reload Speed by 10%.
  • Compulsion Loop: After killing an enemy, gain a 5% Fire Rate and Melee Attack Speed for 7s. Stacks 3x.

I focused on enhancing DPS in my ring setup, combining Hunter and Gunslinger perks. You can customize these rings in Remnant 2, though.

For added shield, use Rerouting Cable and Generating Band, sacrificing the two recommended rings.

Amulet

  • Indignant Fetish: Taking damage from enemies increases all damage dealt by 25% and reduces all incoming damage by 10%. Lasts 20s.

The Long Gun I recommended has a long reload and overheating, making you vulnerable to hits. Equip the Amulet Indignant Fetish to turn damage taken in your favor. It boosts damage dealt by 25% when you’re hit and reduces damage taken for the next 20 seconds—a game-changing amulet you shouldn’t miss

Best Traits

Here are some traits we’d recommend focusing on while using the Best DPS build:

  1. Ammo Reserves (Gunslinger Archetype): Increases Ammo Reserves by 5% – 50%. It’s unlocked by default for Gunslinger Archetype and at level 10 for other archetypes. Maxing it at level 10 doubles your Ammo Reserves.

  2. Vigor: Increases Max Health by 3% to 30%. It can add tankiness to your character, which might be lacking in this build.

  3. Longshot (Hunter Archetype): Increases Weapon Ideal Range by 60(cm) up to 600(cm). This trait is unlocked by default if you choose the Hunter Archetype, providing a longer effective range. Upgrade it for better results.

Best Skill

There are three skills for an Archetype. However, only one of them is equipable at a time.

Hunter

For Hunter, the best pick would be Hunter’s Mark. This skill is automatically unlocked, unlike the rest two.

  • Hunter’s Mark Description: Increases Hunter’s spatial awareness by casting an Aura that automatically applies MARK to all enemies within 35m. While senses are heightened, Hunter also gains 15% increased Ranged and Melee damage. Lasts 25s.

The skill comes with a long countdown, but that’s the case with almost all skills in Remnant 2. Crit Chance will increase against MARKED enemies, making Hunter’s Mark an incredible skill to equip.

Gunslinger

For Gunslinger, I highly recommend the skill Bulletstorm. You can unlock the skill at level 10.

Bulletstorm Description:

  • Increases Fire Rate by 20%
  • Increases Reload Speed by 50% for all ranged weapons.
  • Lasts 20s.
  • Single Shot Weapons become fully automatic.
  • Kills instantly reload the current weapon.

For Bows and Crossbows, it adds:

  • 15% Critical Chance.
  • 50% increased Projectile Speed.

This skill enhances your DPS significantly, offering increased fire rate and damage output. Combining Hunter and Gunslinger archetypes creates a powerful combo for taking down enemies. Happy gaming!

  • High Weakspot Damage.
  • MARKS enemies and does more damage to them.
  • Enhanced Reload Speed, Fire Rate, and Ammo.
  • Decent AOE Damage.
  • Perfect for every range.

  • Low Defensive Stats.
  • Requires Accuracy.
  • No Healing Perks.
  • Less fruitful against bosses with no Weakspot

Why Others Were Not Choosen?

  • Hunter-Challenger Deceit Build: Only gives 3000 DPS but requires a lot of effort.
  • Ritualist-Challenger Build: Drains health to boost damage that makes it very risky.

My Thoughts On DPS Build

In my experience, the HUGS (Hunter-Gunslinger) build packs the most damage output you can get on any weapon. It specializes in mid-range combat with abundant weak spot damage, fire rate, reload speed, and ammo perks, allowing you to dominate the battlefield completely. However, it requires decent aim and doesn’t do well in terms of defense, but still, it’s my favorite due to the aggressive playstyle.
